Aberdeen Technical Training was founded with a single purpose: to deliver world-class well intervention training that reflects the realities of modern offshore operations — not just what’s in a textbook.
Our instructors have collectively spent decades on rigs, platforms and intervention vessels. They’ve operated the equipment, managed the pressure events and made the calls. That experience is the curriculum.
Based in Aberdeen city centre — the heart of the North Sea oil & gas industry — we provide purpose-built classroom facilities combined with our own digital Learning Management System, enabling both in-person and blended learning worldwide.

Field-Tested Instructors
Our ATT instructors have spent 60+ years in active oil field operations before stepping into the classroom.
Roy Garden is an accomplished Well Intervention & Well Control Instructor with nearly 40 years of operational experience in well intervention, workover and well integrity operations. He began his well intervention career in 1987 as a service hand, where he built a deep technical foundation across completions, wireline, slickline, coiled tubing, pumping and subsea intervention operations. Over the following decades, Roy progressed into senior operational roles before specialising in well control instruction.
Roy delivers Well Intervention, Workover and Well Integrity training with a strong emphasis on barrier management, operational discipline and real‑world well control challenges. His teaching style is practical, structured and grounded in decades of frontline experience — making complex intervention concepts accessible to both new entrants and seasoned personnel.
Martin McCaffrey is a highly respected Senior Well Intervention & Well Control Instructor with more than 30 years of offshore operational experience. Beginning his career with Nowsco in the early 1990s, Martin progressed through a range of senior well services and intervention roles across the North Sea and international operations.
For the past six years, Martin has specialised in Intervention Well Control training, delivering IWCF‑aligned instruction with a strong focus on operational realism, barrier management, and practical decision‑making under pressure. His deep field background allows him to translate complex well control concepts into clear, scenario‑driven learning that resonates with both new and experienced personnel.
Captain Ian Robertson (Ret) brings a distinguished commercial aviation career into the energy sector, serving as Aberdeen Technical Training’s lead Human Factors and Crew Resource Management (CRM) Instructor. As a former airline captain with decades of experience managing high‑consequence, time‑critical operations, Ian specialises in transferring proven aviation safety principles directly into well control, well intervention, and critical operations training.
Ian’s courses focus on situational awareness, communication discipline, threat and error management, and decision‑making under pressure — the same competencies that transformed aviation safety worldwide. His cross‑industry expertise makes him one of the most unique and impactful Human Factors instructors in the UK energy sector.

Managment
Jason Grant is the Managing Director of Aberdeen Technical Training, bringing decades of leadership in high‑consequence energy sector training.
Prior to founding ATT, Jason served as Managing Director of Aberdeen Drilling School, where he built and ran the organisation through years of global expansion before its acquisition and eventual closure in 2025. His career has been defined by developing market leading, operationally realistic training programmes that set industry benchmarks across the North Sea and international markets.
