Course Overview

Purpose

The Subsea Module provides candidates with the specialist knowledge and operational understanding required to safely manage subsea well intervention pressure control activities.

This standalone discipline can be added to an existing IWCF Well Intervention Pressure Control Level 4 certificate, allowing candidates to extend their certification to include Subsea Operations.

The module focuses on subsea well control architecture, systems, barrier management, and the operational challenges unique to deepwater and subsea intervention environments.

What the Course Covers

The module follows the IWCF syllabus for Subsea Operations and is delivered in accordance with the official ATT course outline, across four core areas:

Subsea Intervention Fundamentals

Subsea completions & intervention systems
Subsea equipment overview (BOP, LRP, EDP, subsea tree systems)
Barrier philosophy & subsea barrier envelopes
Subsea well kill methods & deepwater considerations

Subsea Intervention Lubricator (SIL)

SIL system components
Pressure control equipment (PCE)
Operational procedures
Problem situations & contingencies

Open Water Intervention Riser Systems (OWIRS)

System architecture & deployment
PCE requirements
Operational sequences
Common operational challenges

Through-BOP Riser Systems (TBRIS)

System design & application
Pressure control & barrier considerations

Training Format

  • Pre-course learning materials and training manual available upon registration
  • 1 day of interactive classroom-based instruction (Thursday, 0830–1700)
  • Daily LMS revision session (45 minutes)
  • IWCF assessment conducted on Friday morning, 08:30–09:30

Prerequisites

  • Candidates must be pre-registered with IWCF and provide a valid 6-digit IWCF Candidate Registration (CR) Number.
  • Candidates must hold a valid IWCF Level 4 Well Intervention Pressure Control Certificate. On successful completion, Subsea will be added to this.

Certification Pathway

Successful candidates will receive an IWCF Subsea Operations certification, which can be combined with their existing Level 3 or Level 4 Well Intervention Pressure Control certificate to form a complete multi-discipline qualification.
